We’ve got to start talking to our kids early and often! A recent survey shows that young adults are “foggy” in the areas of sex education, pregnancy planning and contraception
Posted February 2nd, 2010
The Fog Zone is a national survey that was conducted and is the first of its kind to focus in depth on the attitudes and behavior of unmarried young adults regarding pregnancy planning, contraception and related issues. Commissioned by The National Campaign and conducted by the Guttmacher Institute, the survey gathered detailed results from a nationally represented, sample of 1,800 unmarried men and women ages 18-29. The survey uncovers some very interesting results. Below are a few examples:
- 86% of men and 88% of women say it is important to avoid pregnancy in their lives right now
*HOWEVER*
- Many unmarried young adults say they know little about even the most commonly used methods of contraception
- Myths and misinformation about pregnancy and contraception are prevalent among young adults
- 38% of men and 44% of women believe “it doesn’t matter whether you use birth control or not; when it is your time to get pregnant it will happen”
